More than 13 years ago, before I was in the mortgage business, I was at the point where you are now. I was frustrated, angry and a little bit embarrassed to apply for a loan. You see, my wife and I wanted to buy our first home together. But, we didn’t have a lot of money and our credit was very limited. Plus, we weren’t at our jobs very long. We were typical first time home buyers. Like many buyers, we were looking for a home before we had our mortgage all lined up and ready to go. At that time, we didn’t know it was best to get our loan pre-approved first before we started to look at homes. In fact, our Realtor didn’t even ask us about our qualifications. Despite not knowing if we could even be approved for a loan, our Realtor advised us to put in an offer on a home we liked. So, we did just that. We made an offer and our Realtor presented it to the Seller. A day later we found out that our offer was accepted! We were extremely excited about buying our first home. But, at the same time, we were really nervous. We were worried about losing the house and what would happen if our loan was turned down. Would we be able to afford it? And how much was our monthly payment going to be? The closing date was only a few weeks away and we didn’t even know if our loan would be approved. I was very anxious and my wife was on pins and needles! The whole loan approval process was new to us and we didn’t know what to expect. I remember the day we met with our Loan Officer.
